Convert MPEG to PNG Sequence
|
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a bitmapped image
format that employs lossless data compression. PNG was created to improve upon
and replace GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) as an image-file format not requiring
a patent license. The initialism PNG can also be interpreted as a recursive initialism
for "PNG's Not GIF".
MPEG to PNG Converter Software converts MPEG to PNG sequence files.
The software captures every frame of MPEG video clips, and then exports the
frames to a serial of separated PNG files. You can also convert MPEG to other
image formats such as BMP, JPG, and TIFF.
And, you can set output frame rate, and output image size with the software. The
output PNG files look something like this.
The software is also a video and audio converter that supports common formats
and portable devices such as 3G2, Windows Phone, H.264, OGM, SPX (Speex), AIFF, WAV, etc.
The software could convert H263 to OGG Vorbis, VOB to MP2, EVO to ASF, MPEG to VCD, RM to PPM image sequence,
and so on.
MPEG to PNG Software supports batch conversion and, is compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is MPEG?
Popular video format standardized by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG);
compressed using MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 compression; often used for creating
movies that are distributed over the Internet. MPEG movies are typically
saved with an .MPG extension. The official name of MPEG-1 is International
Standard IS-11172. The MPEG standards consist of different Parts. Each
part covers a certain aspect of the whole specification. The Video section,
part 2 of MPEG-2, is similar to the previous MPEG-1 standard, but also
provides support for interlaced video, the format used by analog broadcast
TV systems. MPEG algorithms compress data to form small bits that can be
easily transmitted and then decompressed. MPEG-21 is supposed to become
a standard as a multimedia framework. MPEG-2 part 3 also defined additional
bit rates and sample rates for MPEG-1 Audio Layer I, II and III. A decoder
that can interpret the bitstream is said to be compliant. MPEG encoding
can introduce blockiness, colour bleed and shimmering effects on video
and lack of detail and quantisation effects on audio. MPEG-1 (1993): Coding
of moving pictures and associated audio for digital storage media at up
to about 1.5 Mbit/s (ISO/IEC 11172). The first MPEG compression standard
for audio and video. It is commonly limited to about 1.5 Mbit/s although
the specification is capable of much higher bit rates. It was basically
designed to allow moving pictures and sound to be encoded into the bitrate
of a Compact Disc. It is used on Video CD and can be used for low-quality
video on DVD Video. It was used in digital satellite/cable TV services
before MPEG-2 became widespread. To meet the low bit requirement, MPEG-1
downsamples the images, as well as uses picture rates of only 24-30 Hz,
resulting in a moderate quality. It includes the popular MPEG-1 Audio Layer
III (MP3) audio compression format.
What is PNG?
PNG or Portable Network Graphics is a file format that was designed to
replace GIF. Not only is GIF a technically limited file format but LZW,
the compression algorithm it uses, is owned by Unisys who are more than
happy to charge for the privilege of using it. PNG is patent-free and offers
enough features to also make it an valid alternative to the TIFF file format
in some cases. The file format is meant to store bitmap data. The color
type is specified in the color type field, which is a bit field, as explained
in the table below at right. Not all combinations are valid, however: there
is no indexed grayscale, which would be color types 1 and 5; transparency
in palette images is indicated by the presence of a tRNS chunk, not a separate
channel, so there is no color type 7. PNG is designed for on-line viewing
applications, such as the World Wide Web, so it is fully streamable with
a progressive display option. PNG is robust, providing both full file integrity
checking and simple detection of common transmission errors. Also, PNG
can store gamma correction and chromaticity data for improved colour matching
on heterogeneous platforms. Because JPEG uses lossy compression, it suffers
from generation loss, where repeatedly encoding and decoding an image progressively
loses information and degrades the image. Because PNG is lossless, it is
a suitable format for storing images to be edited. While PNG is reasonably
efficient when compressing photographic images, there are lossless compression
formats designed specifically for photographic images, lossless JPEG 2000
and Adobe DNG (Digital negative) for example. However these formats are
either not widely supported or proprietary. An image can be saved into
JPEG format for distribution so that the single pass of JPEG encoding will
not noticeably degrade the image.
