WMV to Xvid Converter Software converts WMV files to Xvid
fast. Xvid offers outstanding quality and performance clearly surpassing expensive,
competing products. Xvid allows you to create video for interoperable exchange
with portable or home multimedia devices as Xvid is widely supported in hardware.
Being open-source, Xvid is future-proof and secure to use.
Besides WMV and Xvid, the converter also supports common and uncommon video
and audio formats and protable devices such as MPG, AAC, CAF (Core Audio Format), M4V, DTS, OGV, OGG, etc. It could convert
MKV to FLV, WebM to MPG, ASF to TIFF image sequence, MKV to OGM, 3G2 to Android Tablet, and so on.
WMV to Xvid Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is
full compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is WMV?
WMV stands for Windows Media Video. It is a compressed video file format
developed by Microsoft and is frequently used to transmit video content
to be viewed on a Windows-enabled PC. Most commercially sold WMV HD titles
are copy protected using Microsoft Windows Media DRM technology. One of
the uses for the codec is computer step-by-step demonstration videos. The
first version of the codec was WMV 7 Screen, The second and current version,
WMV 9 Screen, supports VBR encoding in addition to CBR. Microsoft recommends
that ASF files containing non-Windows Media codecs use the generic .ASF
file extension. The file extension .WMV typically describes ASF files that
use Windows Media Video codecs. In 2003, Microsoft drafted a video codec
specification based on its WMV 9 codec and submitted it to SMPTE for standardization.
The standard was officially approved in March 2006 as SMPTE 421M, better
known as VC-1, thus making the WMV 9 format an open standard. Since then,
VC-1 has become one of the three mandatory video formats for the Blu-ray
format, along with H.264 and MPEG-2. WMV 9 also introduced a new profile
titled Windows Media Video 9 Professional, which is activated automatically
whenever the video resolution exceeds 300,000 pixels (e.g., 528x576, 640*480
or 768x432 and beyond) and the bitrate 1000 kbit/s. It is targeted towards
high-definition video content, at resolutions such as 720p and 1080p. Software
that can play WMV files include Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, MPlayer,
The KMPlayer, Media Player Classic and VLC Media Player. The Microsoft
Zune media management software supports the WMV codec, but uses a Zune-specific
variation of Windows Media DRM which is used by PlaysForSure. Many third-party
players exist for various platforms such as Linux that use the FFmpeg implementation
of the WMV codecs.
What is Xvid?
XviD codec compresses standard- and high-definition video for storage in
an AVI file. Based on the MPEG-4 standard, XviD can shrink a 4.7 gigabyte
DVD movie to under 700 megabytes, letting you store it on a recordable
CD for playback on a computer or compatible DVD player. Many portable media
players and mobile phones also support XviD, so you can watch your movies
anywhere you want. The XviD codec makes it possible to compress a full-length
DVD-quality movie enough to fit on a single CD (might require 2 CDs depending
on the length of the movie), while still maintaining the original image
quality. Despite the fact that XviD movies offer higher quality video at
smaller file sizes they take less time to encode than MPEG-2 due to the
incredible compression technology. Hence, Xvid can somewhat be seen as
a ZIP for video. But unlike ZIP, Xvid is not lossless. That means that
a video after compression and decompression with Xvid won't be identical
to the original source. Typically however, a difference to the source is
visually imperceptible. Files encoded with global motion compensation,
Qpel, MPEG quantization, multiple B-frames or files that exceed the VBV
limitations may not play back properly on DivX Certified hardware devices.
GNU-licensed 1.0.x releases enjoyed greater freedom, although there are
still legislative restrictions on XviD use in some regions. So the GPL
grants recipients more freedoms than it's common with other software. Therefore,
and due to its very high image quality that has been approved in independent
tests conducted by third parties the Xvid codec has gained great popularity
in the recent past and has become the codec of choice when it comes to
exchanging digital video.
