MOD to MKV Converter Software converts MOD files to MKV. The converter
supports popular codecs for MKV file such as H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, AAC, AC-3, MP2,
MP3, and Vorbis. The software could calculate bit rate for video according to
video size automatically.
The converter supports common media formats such as WebM (VP8), 3G2, Windows Phone, M4B (MPEG-4 audiobook), WMV, AMR, AAC, etc. It
could convert H263 to 3G2, MOD to OGM, OGV to CAF (Core Audio Format), MP4 to CAF (Core Audio Format), WebM to WMA, and so on. In other words, the software is an ideal format
Converter Software for common uses.
MOD to MKV Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is full compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is MOD?
MOD and TOD are recording formats for use in digital tapeless camcorders.
The first camcorders that used MOD format appeared in 2003. JVC introduced
the Everio GZ-MG30, which recorded directly to an internal hard disk drive.
Media files must be packaged into distribution formats like HD DVD or Blu-ray
Disc, using authoring software. As of 2011, MOD format is still being used
in standard definition camcorders manufactured by JVC, Panasonic and Canon.
In January 2008 Canon unveiled a family of tapeless standard definition
consumer camcorders: the FS100, FS10 and FS11. All these camcorders record
in MOD format. Some tools such as MediaInfo can correctly report the aspect
ratio of widescreen MOD files, but media players may or may not display
them correctly depending on the capabilities of the video decoder that
they are utilizing at the time. Standard definition video can be recorded
in 4:3 and 16:9 formats, but the latter is not correctly identified in
media file header, so video may appear squeezed horizontally when viewed.
TOD format is comparable with AVCHD, but cannot be directly played on consumer
video equipment. MOD files can be opened and exported to a different video
file format using the software included with the digital camcorder. Despite
that the file structure is unique to this video recording format, the location
for still images follows the standard agreed upon by many still camera
manufacturers. There are also third-party tools for modifying the wide-screen
aspect ratio information in the media file header so that it satisfies
decoders which would otherwise fail to interpret this information correctly
in an unmodified MOD file.
What is MKV?
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard, free container format,
a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or
subtitle tracks in one file. It is a universal format for storing common
multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. The project was announced on 6 December 2002 as a fork of the
Multimedia Container Format (MCF), after disagreements between MCF lead
developer Lasse K?rkk?inen and soon-to-be Matroska founder Steve Lhomme
about the use of the Extensible Binary Meta Language (EBML) instead of
a binary format. All Matroska file types (to include MKV) are open and
free to use without license fee. The name "matroska" was derived
from the Russian word "matryoshka," referring to the Russian
dolls that contain many dolls within one doll. As the name implies (the
Russian egg-shaped dolls contained within one another) Matroska can contain
video (DivX, Xvid, RV9, etc), sound (MP3, MP2, Ogg, AC3, AAC, DTS, PCM),
as well as subtitles (SRT, ASS, SSA, USF, etc) in the same file.
Matroska aims to become THE standard of multimedia container
formats. In addition to that, there are also free parsing and playback
libraries available under the BSD license, for commercial software and
Hardware adoption. MKV files contain video and audio streams (may also
contain subtitles). The streams are likely compressed and have been produced
with an encoder. In order to play these streams a codec is required. For
a media player to read MKV files, the latest codec pack must first be installed,
usually recommended from the Combined Community Codec Pack.
