Convert MPEG to 3GP
|
The article introduces how to convert converts MPEG files to 3GP
with an easy-to-use MPEG to 3GP Converter Software. The software could encode
3GP file with different codecs such as H.263, H.264, MPEG-4, AMR-NB, and AAC.
It's an ideal 3GP converter for your mobile phone. Besides 3GP, the software supports
popular formats such as SWF, M4R (iPhone ringtone), M4V, FLV, PNG image sequence, MOV, Windows Phone, etc.
The software could convert MOV to MP3, DVD to M4V, DVD to ASF, MKV to DivX, MPEG to MPG,
and so on.
MPEG to 3GP Software supports batch conversion and, is compatible with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is MPEG?
MPG video file is a variant of the MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group)
video and audio compression format, optimized for broadcast quality video.
MPG videos have the file extension .mpg. MPEG's official designation is
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29 WG11 - Coding of moving pictures and audio (ISO/IEC Joint
Technical Committee 1, Subcommittee 29, Working Group 11). MPEG files previously
on PCs needed hardware decoders (codecs) for MPEG processing. Today, however,
PCs can use software-only codecs including products from RealNetworks,
QuickTime or Windows Media Player. This is considered advantageous in applications
such as broadcasting where the number of expensive complex encoders is
small but the number of simple inexpensive decoders is large. The Video
section, part 2 of MPEG-2, is similar to the previous MPEG-1 standard,
but also provides support for interlaced video, the format used by analog
broadcast TV systems. The advantage of standardizing the decoder is that
over time encoding algorithms can improve, yet compliant decoders continue
to function with them. MPEG movies are typically saved with an .MPG extension.
MPEG-2 is a standard for "the generic coding of moving pictures and
associated audio information". It describes a combination of lossy
video compression and lossy audio data compression methods which permit
storage and transmission of movies using currently available storage media
and transmission bandwidth. MPEG-2 includes a Systems section, part 1,
that defines two distinct, but related, container formats. One is the MPEG
transport stream, designed to carry digital video and audio over possibly
lossy media, where the beginning and the end of the stream may not be identified,
such as broadcasting or magnetic tape, examples of which include ATSC/DVB/ISDB/SBTVD
broadcasting, and HDV recording on tape. MPEG-2 Systems also defines the
MPEG program stream, a container format designed for file-based media such
as hard disk drives, optical discs and flash memory.
What is 3GP?
3GP is a simplified version of the MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) container format,
designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate
mobile phones. A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring
the most significant bytes first. The 3GP file format stores video streams
as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264), and audio streams
as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC-LC, HE-AAC v1 or Enhanced aacPlus (HE-AAC
v2). The 3GP file type is primarily associated with '3GPP'. Tailored to
the unique requirements of mobile devices, 3GPP and 3GPP2 take advantage
of MPEG-4, the standard for delivery of video and audio over the Internet.
It stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264),
and audio streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC-LC or HE-AAC. The MP4
and the AVC file format specifications described usage of MPEG-4 content
in the ISO base media file format. 3GPP file format was designed for GSM-based
Phones and may have the filename extension ".3gp". Some newer/higher-end
phones without 3G capabilities may also playback and record in this format
(again, with said limitations). Audio imported from CD onto a PlayStation
3 when it is set to encode to the MPEG-4 AAC codec will copy onto USB devices
in the 3GP format. 3GPP is the new worldwide standards for the creation,
delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless
networks. These extensions were registered by the registration authority
for code-points in ISO base media file format ("MP4 Family" files).
Most 3G capable mobile phones support the playback and recording of video
in 3GP format (memory, maximum filesize for playback and recording, and
resolution limits exist and vary).
