What is AVI?
AVI means Audio Video Interleave, is a multimedia container format introduced
by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows technology.
AVI and codec are inseparable. An AVI file takes the form of a single chunk
in a RIFF formatted file, which is then subdivided into two mandatory "chunks"
and one optional "chunk". Being developed by Microsoft in 1992,
it has become so wide spread that many people consider it de facto standard
for storing video and audio information on PC. The AVI container has no
native support for modern MPEG-4 features like B-Frames. So now there are
hundreds of avi files that look similar but are completely different inside.
As a derivative of the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF), AVI files
are commonly tagged with metadata in the INFO chunk. In particular, the
Indeo CODEC, popular for video compression on PCs, has not been ported
to Mac OS X. Video container or wrapper format created by Microsoft; stores
video data that may be encoded in a variety of codecs; typically uses less
compression than similar formats such as .MPEG and .MOV. However, with
the introduction of DirectShow, AVI became a very flexible and powerful
architecture. AVI was not intended to contain video using any compression
technique which requires access to future video frame data beyond the current
frame. Approaches exist to support modern video compression techniques
(such as MPEG-4) which rely on this function, although this is beyond the
intent of the original specification and may cause problems with playback
software which does not anticipate this use. Uncompressed AVI: AVI files
can be created with no Compression, resulting in extremely large file sizes,
but with no loss of quality from the input video to the saved file. This
also requires no codecs to be installed, either for saving or playback.
This is generally not recommended.
What is iPhone?
The iPhone is a line of smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc.
It runs Apple's iOS mobile operating system, originally named "iPhone
OS". The CDMA model of the iPhone 4, just the same any other CDMA-only
cell phone, does not use a SIM card or have a SIM card slot. The iPhone
4 introduced a 5.0 megapixel camera (2592 * 1936 pixels), also located
on the back, which is equipped with a backside illuminated sensor capable
of capturing pictures in low-light conditions, as well as an LED flash
capable of staying lit for video recording at 720p resolution, considered
high-definition. iPhone 4 is the first iPhone that has the high dynamic
range photography feature. In addition the iPhone 4 has a second camera
on the front capable of VGA photos and SD video recording. Users can also
view YouTube videos on the device, along with Microsoft Office documents
and most imaging formats, including .JPEG, .GIF and .TIFF. The 3.5 mm TRRS
connector for the headphones is located on the top left corner of the device.
The headphone socket on the original iPhone is recessed into the casing,
making it incompatible with most headsets without the use of an adapter.
Subsequent generations eliminated the issue by using a flush-mounted headphone
socket. Cars equipped with an auxiliary jack allow for handsfree use of
the iPhone while driving as a substitute for Bluetooth. The user interface
of iOS is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch
gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and
buttons. Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swipe, tap,
pinch, and reverse pinch, all of which have specific definitions within
the context of the iOS operating system and its multi-touch interface.
Internal accelerometers are used by some applications to respond to shaking
the device (one common result is the undo command) or rotating it in three
dimensions (one common result is switching from portrait to landscape mode).
