Convert VOB to MKV
|
VOB to MKV Converter Software converts VOB files to MKV. The converter
supports popular codecs for MKV file such as H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, AAC, AC-3, MP2,
MP3, and Vorbis. The software could calculate bit rate for video according to
video size automatically.
The converter supports common media formats such as MKA, WebM (VP8), AAC, M4B (MPEG-4 audiobook), M4V, 3G2, FLAC, etc. It
could convert DAT to MP2, RM to M4A (MPEG-4 audio), FLV to Xvid, RM to Xvid, 3G2 to DivX, and so on. In other words, the software is an ideal format
Converter Software for common uses.
VOB to MKV Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is full compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is VOB?
A VOB file (Video Object) is a container format contained in DVD-Video
media. VOB is based on MPEG-2 program stream format, but with additional
limitations and specifications in the private streams. It contains the
actual Video, Audio, Subtitle, and Menu contents in stream form. While
all VOB files are MPEG program streams, not all MPEG program streams comply
with the definition for a VOB file. Basically VOB file is just a basic
MPEG-2 system stream -- meaning that it is a file that contains multiplexed
MPEG-2 video stream, audio streams (normally AC3 and DTS formats) and subtitle
streams. VOB file cannot contain AAC audio (MPEG-2 Part 7), MPEG-4 compression
formats and others, which are allowed in MPEG program stream standard.
Files in VOB format have .vob filename extension and are typically stored
in the VIDEO_TS folder at the root of a DVD. BUP (backup) files are exact
copies of IFO files, supplied to help in case of corruption. VOB files
are a very strict subset of the MPEG program stream standard. The VOB format
is based on the MPEG program stream format, but with additional limitations
and specifications in the private streams. A player of generic MPEG-2 files
can usually play unencrypted VOB files, which contain MPEG-1 Audio Layer
II audio. Other audio compression formats such as AC-3 or DTS are less
widely supported. VOBs contain excellent playback quality and typically
take up lots of hard drive space. In addition, VOB can contain Linear PCM,
AC-3 or DTS audio and subpictures (subtitles). VOB files may be accompanied
with IFO and BUP files. These files respectively have .ifo and .bup filename
extensions. Many DVD-Video titles are encrypted with Content Scramble System
(CSS). This is a data encryption and communications authentication method
designed to prevent copying video and audio data directly from the DVD-Video
discs. Decryption and authentication keys needed for playing back encrypted
VOB files are stored in the normally inaccessible lead-in area of the DVD
and are used only by CSS decryption software (e.g., in a DVD player or
software player).
What is MKV?
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard, free container format,
a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or
subtitle tracks in one file. It is a universal format for storing common
multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. MKV files contain video and audio streams (may also contain
subtitles). The streams are likely compressed and have been produced with
an encoder. In order to play these streams a codec is required. The Matroska
developers are also continually working along with hardware producers to
include MKV support in multimedia software typically included with new
computers and support in a variety of operating systems. The aim of developing
Matroska was to provide a flexible and cross-platform alternative to AVI,
ASF, MP4, MPG, MOV, and RM. The source code of the libraries developed
by the Matroska Development Team is licensed under GNU L-GPL. The name
"matroska" was derived from the Russian word "matryoshka,"
referring to the Russian dolls that contain many dolls within one doll.
This is a play on the container (media within a form of media/doll within
a doll) aspect of the matryoshka as it is a container for visual and audio
data. Matroska is similar in conception to other containers like AVI, MP4
or ASF, but is completely open source. MKV is an envelope for which there
can be many audio, video and subtitles streams, allowing the user to store
a complete movie or CD in a single file. Matroska aims to become THE standard
of multimedia container formats. The name and logo can be used without
permission in non-commercial contexts; however, for commercial use the
development group asks that companies contact them for permission.
