What is M2TS?
M2TS is a video compression format that is used for storing video data
on Blu-ray discs. Since an M2TS file contains an MPEG-2 transport stream,
it can be opened individually by some desktop video applications and streamed
independently of the Blu-ray disc. It is used for multiplexing audio, video
and other streams. Optionally supported audio formats are Dolby Digital
Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and Dolby TrueHD. Software that supports
M2TS files usually works only with decrypted or unencrypted files. The
BDAV container with filename extension .MTS or .m2ts is also used in AVCHD
format, which is a high definition digital video camera recorder format.
BDAV disc format is used on BD-RE and BD-R discs for audio/video recording.

assume the decoder has access to the entire stream for synchronization
purposes, Transport Streams are designed for delivering data in real time
over unreliable transport media, to a device which is assumed to start
reading data from some point after the beginning of transmission. This
is a file extension that is used by certain models of a Sony Camcorder
for their video and audio files. Normally these files also have a separate
.modd file which contains the timestamp. In general, the Sony Camcorder

MPEG LA patents. As a result of the MPEG-LA threat the United States Department
of Justice (DOJ) has started an investigation into the MPEG LA for its
role in possibly attempting to stifle competition.
