Convert MP4 to MKV

MP4 to MKV Converter Software converts MP4 files to MKV. The converter
supports popular codecs for MKV file such as H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, AAC, AC-3, MP2,
MP3, and Vorbis. The software could calculate bit rate for video according to
video size automatically.
The converter supports common media formats such as Android Tablet, MOV, MPG, FLAC, DivX, CAF (Core Audio Format), OGM, etc. It
could convert TS to MMF, MKV to PPM image sequence, DVD to MP2, XVID to CAF (Core Audio Format), MPEG to WMV, and so on. In other words, the software is an ideal format
Converter Software for common uses.
MP4 to MKV Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is full compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is MP4?
Movie or video clip that uses MPEG-4 compression, a standard developed
by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG); commonly used for sharing video
files on the Internet. A separate hint track is used to include streaming
information in the file. The MPEG-4 file format, version 1 was published
in 2001 as ISO/IEC 14496-1:2001, which is a revision of the MPEG-4 Part
1: Systems specification published in 1999 (ISO/IEC 14496-1:1999). The
following kinds of data are recommended (for compatibility reasons) to
be embedded in MPEG-4: Video: MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1; Audio: MPEG-4
AAC, MP3, MP2, MPEG-1 Part 3, MPEG-2 Part 3, CELP (speech),TwinVQ (very
low bitrates), SAOL (midi); Pictures: JPEG, PNG; Subtitles: MPEG-4 Timed
Text, and/or xmt/bt text format (means that subtitles have to be translated
into xmt/bt); Systems: Allows animation, interactivity and DVD-like menus.
MPEG-4 Part 14 is an instance of more general ISO/IEC 14496-12:2004 (MPEG-4
Part 12: ISO base media file format) which is directly based upon QuickTime
File Format. The MP4 file format is used to compress large audio or video
files into a size that is small enough that it can be quickly downloaded.
Being quite often used as the alternative to *.mp3 on an Apple iPod and
in iTunes, *.mp4 is still not as widely used in computer and hardware players
as the *.mp3 in spite of the higher quality of the AAC codec. When someone
is creating a new specification derived from the ISO Base Media File Format,
all the existing specifications should be used both as examples and a source
of definitions and technology. The only official filename extension for
MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4.
What is MKV?
Matroska (MKV) is a multimedia container format used for storing multimedia
content such as movies and TV shows. Matroska aims to become THE standard
of multimedia container formats. Matroska is similar in conception to other
containers like AVI, MP4 or ASF, but is completely open source. Matroska
is rapidly gaining ground as a popular video format mainly because of its
advanced features. This format is currently not supported by all operating
systems or multimedia software and requires the latest codec packs installed
in order to view the files. MKV founder Steve Lhomme left the project after
disagreeing with the MCF project leader Lasse Karkkainen regarding using
the Extensible Binary Metal Language (EBML) over another format. The following
media players have been tested and proved by Matroska to support MKV files:
ALShow, Avidemux, BS Player, Chameleo, The Core Media Player, Core Player
Mobile, The Core Pocket Media Player, foobar2000, GOM Player, Gstreamer-based
Players, Handbrake, jetAudio, Kaffeine, The KMPlayer, Media Player Classic,
Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, MediaPortal, Mezzmo Media Player, MPlayer,
MythTV, Perian Quicktime Plugin for Mac OS X, Target Longlife Media Player,
Totem Movie Player, VirtualDubMod, VLC media player, VSO, Vuze Media Player,
Windows Media Player 11, xine, Zoom Player, plexapp, and XBMC. Matroska
is an open standards project. This means for personal use it is absolutely
free to use and that the technical specifications describing the bitstream
are open to everybody, even to companies that would like to support it
in their products. The MKV multimedia file container is designed to support
an unlimited number of multimedia tracks or files in a single container
file.
