Convert ASF to MKV
|
ASF to MKV Converter Software converts ASF files to MKV. The converter
supports popular codecs for MKV file such as H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, AAC, AC-3, MP2,
MP3, and Vorbis. The software could calculate bit rate for video according to
video size automatically.
The converter supports common media formats such as Windows Phone, 3G2, AVI, MMF, MPG, SWF, WebM (VP8), etc. It
could convert TS to PPM image sequence, 3G2 to CAF (Core Audio Format), FLV to Android Tablet, MP4 to SWF, RM to M4B (MPEG-4 audiobook), and so on. In other words, the software is an ideal format
Converter Software for common uses.
ASF to MKV Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is full compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is ASF?
Advanced Streaming Format is an open file format specification for streaming
multimedia files containing text, graphics, sound, video, and animation.
Files of ASF format support playback from digital media servers, HTTP servers,
and local storage devices. According to Microsoft, the change in extensions
was made to make it easier for an application to identify the content of
a media file (see Q284094). Rather, it defines a standardized, extensible
file container that is not dependent on a particular operating system or
communication protocol, or on a particular method (such as HTML or MPEG
4) used to compose the data stream in the file. The advantage of ASF format
is that you may begin playing your video file before it is streamed to
the end. The ASF container provides the framework for digital rights management
in Windows Media Audio and Windows Media Video. They can be compressed
using a variety of video codecs. Due to this encoded with different audio
or video codecs the files will still have .asf extension (just like other
container formats AVI or OGG). Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Windows Media
Video (WMV) are the most common file types contained in an ASF file. The
Advanced Systems Format (ASF) is the file format used by Windows Media.
ASF supports advanced multimedia capabilities including extensible media
types, component download, scaleable media types, author-specified stream
prioritization, multiple language support, and extensive bibliographic
capabilities, including document and content management. The format does
not specify how (i.e. with which codec) the video or audio should be encoded;
it just specifies the structure of the video/audio stream.
What is MKV?
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard, free container format,
a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or
subtitle tracks in one file. It is a universal format for storing common
multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. MKV is an envelope for which there can be many audio, video
and subtitles streams, allowing the user to store a complete movie or CD
in a single file. Matroska aims to become THE standard of multimedia container
formats. MKV files contain video and audio streams (may also contain subtitles).
The streams are likely compressed and have been produced with an encoder.
In order to play these streams a codec is required. These features include
DVD-like menus, streaming audio and video over the internet, a cross-platform
A/V multimedia container format, selectable subtitle tracks, selectable
audio tracks, tools and libraries for developers adding MKV formats to
their applications, and high error recovery. The name and logo can be used
without permission in non-commercial contexts; however, for commercial
use the development group asks that companies contact them for permission.
Matroska is an open standards project. This means for personal use it is
absolutely free to use and that the technical specifications describing
the bitstream are open to everybody, even to companies that would like
to support it in their products. The format is also known as the Matroska
Multimedia Container, and has several file types associated with the project
to include:, MKV, MKA, MKS, and MK3D. This format is currently not supported
by all operating systems or multimedia software and requires the latest
codec packs installed in order to view the files.
