Convert MPEG to MKV
|
MPEG to MKV Converter Software converts MPEG files to MKV. The converter
supports popular codecs for MKV file such as H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, AAC, AC-3, MP2,
MP3, and Vorbis. The software could calculate bit rate for video according to
video size automatically.
The converter supports common media formats such as VOB (DVD Video), PPM image sequence, iPad, 3G2, M4V, FLAC, Windows Phone, etc. It
could convert FLV to 3G2, TS to Android Tablet, WebM to AIFF, EVO to M4V, M2TS to 3G2, and so on. In other words, the software is an ideal format
Converter Software for common uses.
MPEG to MKV Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is full compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is MPEG?
MPG is a common digital video format used for creating movies distributed
on the Internet. The Moving Picture Experts Group created this family of
standards so that users could enjoy smaller media files at a high quality.
There are several MPEG formats, all standardized. MPEG movies are typically
saved with an .MPG extension. The MPEG standards give very little information
regarding structure and operation of the encoder and implementers can supply
encoders using proprietary algorithms. MPEG-2 is a standard for "the
generic coding of moving pictures and associated audio information".
It describes a combination of lossy video compression and lossy audio data
compression methods which permit storage and transmission of movies using
currently available storage media and transmission bandwidth. With some
enhancements, MPEG-2 Video and Systems are also used in some HDTV transmission
systems. This is considered advantageous in applications such as broadcasting
where the number of expensive complex encoders is small but the number
of simple inexpensive decoders is large. MPEG-2 Systems is formally known
as ISO/IEC 13818-1 and as ITU-T Rec. H.222.0. ISO authorized the "SMPTE
Registration Authority, LLC" as the registration authority for MPEG-2
format identifiers. The registration descriptor of MPEG-2 transport is
provided by ISO 13818-1 in order to enable users of the standard to unambiguously
carry data when its format is not necessarily a recognized international
standard. This provision will permit the MPEG-2 transport standard to carry
all types of data while providing for a method of unambiguous identification
of the characteristics of the underlying private data.
What is MKV?
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard, free container format,
a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or
subtitle tracks in one file. It is a universal format for storing common
multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. MKV founder Steve Lhomme left the project after disagreeing
with the MCF project leader Lasse Karkkainen regarding using the Extensible
Binary Metal Language (EBML) over another format. This format is currently
not supported by all operating systems or multimedia software and requires
the latest codec packs installed in order to view the files. MKV (Matroska)
is an open source format based on EBML (Extensible Binary Meta Language),
and includes a greater number of features than supported by other container
formats used in industry. MKV files have a huge potential to becoming more
widely used than the popular AVI and MP4 files. The name "matroska"
was derived from the Russian word "matryoshka," referring to
the Russian dolls that contain many dolls within one doll. Matroska file
extensions are .MKV for video (with subtitles and audio), .MK3D for stereoscopic
video, .MKA for audio-only files, and .MKS for subtitles only. In addition,
since the format does support a variety of compression formats, it's adaptable
for future uses, unlike AVI formats. This coincided with a long coding
break by the MCF's lead developer, during which most of the community quickly
migrated to the new project. In addition to that, there are also free parsing
and playback libraries available under the BSD license, for commercial
software and Hardware adoption. Codec, as a word is an abbreviation of
Coder / Decoder. The video stream located in the MKV file has been "coded"
by the source and now it must be "decoded" by the end user who
wishes to play it.
