What is FLV?
FLV (Flash Video) is a proprietary file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player (formerly known as Macromedia Flash Player) version 6, 7, 8, or 9. The format has quickly established itself as the format of choice for embedded video on the web. The Flash Video FLV file format supports two versions of a so called 'screenshare' (Screen video) codec which is an encoding format designed for screencasts. Both these formats are bitmap tile based, can be lossy by reducing color depths and are compressed using zlib. The second version is only playable in Flash Player 8 and newer. Support for encoding Flash Video files is provided by an encoding tool included with Adobe's Flash Professional and Creative Suite products, On2's Flix encoding tools, Sorenson Squeeze, FFmpeg and other third party tools. The new file formats are completely different from the older FLV file format. Support for video in SWF file format was added in Flash Player 6, released in 2002. Flash Video has been accepted as the default online video format by many sites. The FLV file extension stands for "Flash Video," which is a file type by Adobe Systems Incorporated. Flash Video FLV files usually contain material encoded with codecs following the Sorenson Spark or VP6 video compression formats. FLV was originally developed by Macromedia. FLV files are played using Adobe flash player and can be embedded to web pages. For example, F4V does not support Screen video, Sorenson Spark, VP6 video compression formats and ADPCM, Nellymoser audio compression formats. Both formats are supported in Adobe Flash Player and currently developed by Adobe Systems.

What is 3GP?
3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones but can also be played on some 2G and 4G phones. 3GPP is the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless networks. A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant bytes first. The 3GP file type is primarily associated with '3GPP'. The MP4 and the AVC file format specifications described usage of MPEG-4 content in the ISO base media file format. 3GP is defined in the ETSI 3GPP technical specification. Most 3G capable mobile phones support the playback and recording of video in 3GP format (memory, maximum filesize for playback and recording, and resolution limits exist and vary). The 3GP is structurally based on the ISO base media file format defined in ISO/IEC 14496-12 - MPEG-4 Part 12, but older versions of the 3GP file format did not use some of its features. 3GPP file format was designed for GSM-based Phones and may have the filename extension ".3gp". 3GPP allowed use of AMR and H.263 codecs in the ISO base media file format (MPEG-4 Part 12), because 3GPP specified the usage of the Sample Entry and template fields in the ISO base media file format as well as defining new boxes to which codecs refer. When transferred to a computer, 3GP movies can be viewed on Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms with MPlayer and VLC media player. Programs such as Media Player Classic, K-Multimedia Player, Totem, RealPlayer, QuickTime, and GOM Player can also be used. The Nintendo DSi supports .3gp on an SD card.
