M2TS to MKV Converter Software converts M2TS files to MKV. The converter
supports popular codecs for MKV file such as H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, AAC, AC-3, MP2,
MP3, and Vorbis. The software could calculate bit rate for video according to
video size automatically.
The converter supports common media formats such as Android Phone, FLAC, SPX (Speex), ASF, DV, iPod, WebM (VP8), etc. It
could convert WMV to MP2, DIVX to Android Tablet, DVD to SWF, MOV to CAF (Core Audio Format), TS to MKV, and so on. In other words, the software is an ideal format
Converter Software for common uses.
M2TS to MKV Converter Software supports batch conversion and, is full compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is M2TS?
M2TS is a file format which is sometimes used to encode digital video files.
There are two major variants of MPEG-2 TS. If multiple programs are sets
of video and other Streams intended to play together, are muxed into the
TS it's called an MPTS, or Multiple Program Transport Stream. The names
of M2TS files are in the form "zzzzz.m2ts", where "zzzzz"
is a 5-digit number corresponding to the audiovisual clip. The M2TS file
extension is used to distribute digital video saved in the high-definition
Blu-ray BDAV format. The M2TS format is used for compressing video data
onto Blu-ray discs. They can essentially be distributed and opened as individual
video files since M2TS files contain an MPEG-2 video codec. The BDAV container
is also used in the BDAV (Blu-ray Disc Audio/Visual) disc format, the consumer-oriented
alternative to the BDMV discs. On August 2012, VLC media player 2.0.1 could
convert .m2ts files into MP4 as well. DVDFab (at least premium) can also
convert .m2ts to various other formats, including .mkv or .mp4. The BDAV
container format used on Blu-ray Discs can contain one of the three mandatory
supported video compression formats H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
or SMPTE VC-1 and audio compression formats such as Dolby Digital, DTS
or uncompressed Linear PCM. The BDAV container contains videos recorded
using AVCHD camcorders, such as Sony's HDR-SR(xx)series models. After the
decoder receives the TS it can decode only the streams for the program
it's playing, and ignore streams for other programs. The BDAV container
format (.m2ts) is a standard used on Blu-ray Discs. BDAV stands for "Blu-ray
Disc Audio/Visual," while the M2TS extension refers to "MPEG-2
Transport Stream."
What is MKV?
MKVs are multi-media containers that may contain several subtitle tracks
that can be turned on or off as needed. The format is also known as the
Matroska Multimedia Container, and has several file types associated with
the project to include:, MKV, MKA, MKS, and MK3D. The name "matroska"
was derived from the Russian word "matryoshka," referring to
the Russian dolls that contain many dolls within one doll. The Matroska
name and logo use do have some restrictions based on the specific circumstances.
Matroska file extensions are .MKV for video (with subtitles and audio),
.MK3D for stereoscopic video, .MKA for audio-only files, and .MKS for subtitles
only. It was derived from a project called MCF, but differentiates from
it significantly because it is based on EBML (Extensible Binary Meta Language),
a binary derivative of XML. Matroska aims to become THE standard of multimedia
container formats. MKV founder Steve Lhomme left the project after disagreeing
with the MCF project leader Lasse Karkkainen regarding using the Extensible
Binary Metal Language (EBML) over another format. Its main features include
fast seeking, high error recovery, modularly extendable, selectable subtitle
and audio streams, chapter entries, menus, and streamable over the internet.
MKV (Matroska) is an open source format based on EBML (Extensible Binary
Meta Language), and includes a greater number of features than supported
by other container formats used in industry. The software used for building
the files is free for public distribution and use, and the developers have
created tools to help create and edit MKV files. Hence, it often becomes
necessary to convert MKV files to MPEG1 VCDs or MPEG2 DVDs.
