What is MKV?
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard, free container format,
a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or
subtitle tracks in one file. It is a universal format for storing common
multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. All Matroska file types (to include MKV) are open and free to
use without license fee. This format is currently not supported by all
operating systems or multimedia software and requires the latest codec
packs installed in order to view the files. This is a play on the container
(media within a form of media/doll within a doll) aspect of the matryoshka
as it is a container for visual and audio data. MKV files came from the
Multimedia Container Format (MCF) project. Also, not all media players
can play this format, even with the codec pack installed. Matroska is not
a video codec as it is often thought to be, but a container, or an envelope
that can hold many different codecs at the same time. This format, with
the file extension of '.mkv', is based on EBML (Extensible Binary Meta
Language), which allows changes to be made easily if need be, without breaking
old file supports. This is why it is said that "Matroska is designed
with the future in mind". The Matroska name and logo use do have some
restrictions based on the specific circumstances. Matroska is an open standards
project. This means for personal use it is absolutely free to use and that
the technical specifications describing the bitstream are open to everybody,
even to companies that would like to support it in their products. MKV
founder Steve Lhomme left the project after disagreeing with the MCF project
leader Lasse Karkkainen regarding using the Extensible Binary Metal Language
(EBML) over another format.
What is iPhone?
iPhone is recognized being a type of smartphones that has enabled multimedia
and internet in it. It is also commonly known as a connection line of both
these two features. Apple Inc. is the inventor and designer of this type
of smartphone and they are also known as the sole distributor of iPhone
across the globe. iPhone is extremely thin (only 11.6 millimeters thick)
but wider and longer than many comparable devices. The display area is
a 3.5-inch wide screen multi-touch interface with unusually high resolution
(160 pixels per inch). Apple says that iPhone carries 8 hours of life on
the internal lithium-ion battery for talk or video, and up to 24 hours
for music mode. The device ships with either a 4 or 8 GB hard drive, an
Intel CPU and Apple's OS X operating system, modified for mobile use. An
iPhone 4S activated on a CDMA carrier, however, does have a SIM card slot
but does not rely on a SIM card for activation on that CDMA network. A
CDMA-activated iPhone 4S usually has a carrier-approved roaming SIM preloaded
in its SIM slot at the time of purchase that is used for roaming on certain
carrier-approved international GSM networks only. The SIM slot is locked
to only use the roaming SIM card provided by the CDMA carrier. The iPhone
4 is available in 16 GB and 32 GB variants, as well as a newly introduced
8 GB variant to be sold along side the iPhone 4S at a reduced price point.
The iPhone 4S is available in three sizes: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. All
data is stored on the internal flash drive; the iPhone does not support
expanded storage through a memory card slot, or the SIM card. The iPhone
5 is available in the same three sizes previously available to the iPhone
4S: 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB.
