What is WebM?
The WEBM container format is based on the Matroska container, which stores
Matroska video in .MKV files. Most major Web browsers will support WebM
as part of HTML5 video delivery. In mid-2010, Simon Phipps, a board member
for the Open Source Initiative, expressed doubts as to whether the original
WebM license was an open-source license, since it had not been submitted
to the OSI for approval. Logitech is planning to use WebM as part of a

first chip to host a full hardware implementation of 1080p VP8 decoding.
The video acceleration in the RK29xx chip is handled by the WebM Project's
G-Series 1 hardware decoder IP. On 19 January 2011, the Free Software Foundation
announced its official support for the WebM project. NVIDIA has stated
that they support VP8 adoption, but they have no specific plans to provide
hardware support. Some video codecs require content distributors and manufacturers
to pay patent royalties to use the intellectual property within the codec.
WebM and the codecs it supports (VP8 video and Vorbis audio) require no
royalty payments of any kind. You can do whatever you want with the WebM
code without owing money to anybody. MPC-HC as of SVN 2071 and higher builds
supports WebM playback with internal VP8 decoder based on FFmpeg's code.
The full decoding support for WebM is available in MPC-HC since version
1.4.2499.0. The Free Software Foundation, which maintains the Free Software
Definition, has given its endorsement for WebM and VP8 and considers the
software's license to be compatible with the GNU General Public License.

headphone jack and a proprietary Apple dock connector, but no Ethernet
or USB port. However, the Apple Camera Connection Kit accessory provides
two dock connector adapters for importing photos and videos via USB and
SD memory cards. 300,000 iPads were sold on their first day of availability.
By May 3, 2010, Apple had sold a million iPads, this was in half the time
it took Apple to sell the same number of original iPhones. After passing
the one million mark they continued selling rapidly reaching 3 million
sales after 80 days. During the October 18, 2010, Financial Conference
Call, Steve Jobs announced that Apple had sold more iPads than Macs for
the fiscal quarter. In total, Apple sold more than 15 million first-generation
iPads prior to the launch of the iPad 2. - selling more than all other
tablet PCs combined since the iPad's release. and reaching 75% of tablet
PC sales at the end of 2010.
