Convert AVI to PNG Sequence
|
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a bitmapped image
format that employs lossless data compression. PNG was created to improve upon
and replace GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) as an image-file format not requiring
a patent license. The initialism PNG can also be interpreted as a recursive initialism
for "PNG's Not GIF".
AVI to PNG Converter Software converts AVI to PNG sequence files.
The software captures every frame of AVI video clips, and then exports the
frames to a serial of separated PNG files. You can also convert AVI to other
image formats such as BMP, JPG, and TIFF.
And, you can set output frame rate, and output image size with the software. The
output PNG files look something like this.
The software is also a video and audio converter that supports common formats
and portable devices such as M4B (MPEG-4 audiobook), DivX, OGM, SWF, M4V, ASF, MP4, etc.
The software could convert M2TS to M4V, MOV to MP3, H264 to MP2, FLV to SWF, FLV to VOC,
and so on.
AVI to PNG Software supports batch conversion and, is compatible
with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is AVI?
AVI means Audio Video Interleave, is a multimedia container format introduced
by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows technology.
One of the first terms a digital video freshman gets to know is codec.
However, most, if not all AVI playback issues arise with movies that have
been compressed using CODECs (Compressor - Decompressor) that are unavailable
for QuickTime in Mac OS X. AVI was not intended to contain video using
any compression technique which requires access to future video frame data
beyond the current frame. Approaches exist to support modern video compression
techniques (such as MPEG-4) which rely on this function, although this
is beyond the intent of the original specification and may cause problems
with playback software which does not anticipate this use. In particular,
the Indeo CODEC, popular for video compression on PCs, has not been ported
to Mac OS X. AVI is not intended to contain variable frame rate material.
AVI and codec are inseparable. AVI files can contain both audio and video
data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback.
Being developed by Microsoft in 1992, it has become so wide spread that
many people consider it de facto standard for storing video and audio information
on PC. Hacks are sometimes used to enable modern MPEG-4 features and subtitles,
however, this is the source of playback incompatibilities. Some of the
limitations of AVI in modern use relate to a lack of standardization in
this metadata (see Limitations below). There has been confusion over AVI
files since QuickTime added support for such. As such, it is theoretically
possible to expand any RIFF file format, including AVI, to support almost
any conceivable metadata.
What is PNG?
PNG is a popular digital image format whose compression algorithm does
not degrade the quality of the file. PNG, like GIF, is capable of transparency,
so it is used frequently in web design--though its popularity has not reached
that of the prolific GIF format. Overall, PNG has three distinct advantages
over GIF file formats. First is on the alpha channels, where image transparency
may be modified. With this capability, some pixels may have high transparency
of 80%, while other pixels may also be adjusted to a lower degree. Having
alpha channels also allow for making shadows using colors of the user's
choosing. Next advantage is on gamma correction, wherein graphic brightness
and saturation may be controlled on cross-platforms. This feature makes
sure that images don't' look too bright on the computer's monitor because
of adjustments made on the color value. The third advantage is PNG's capability
for 2D-interlacing for image display. PNG icons have been supported in
most distributions of Linux since at least 1999, in desktop environments
such as GNOME. In 2006, Microsoft Windows support for PNG icons was introduced
in Windows Vista. PNG icons are supported in AROS, Mac OS X, iOS and MorphOS
as well. In addition, Android makes a large use of PNGs. PNG was developed
around 1995 by an Internet working group led by Thomas Boutell. Its popularity
got a big boost when W3C, the organisation that defines web standards,
started promoting its use in 1996. Major graphic arts applications such
as Photoshop and InDesign fully support PNG, although the file format isn't
that popular in prepress because it doesn't support CMYK. I often use InDesign
to create presentations and for this type of application, PNG can be very
useful.
