What is M4V?
The M4V file format is a video file format developed by Apple and is very
close to the MP4 format. Under QuickTime, M4V video with FairPlay attached
to it is identified as AVC0 Media. The differences are the optional Apple's
DRM copyright protection, and the treatment of AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio
which is not standardized for the MP4 container. Unprotected M4V files
may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file
extension from ".m4v" to ".mp4." Copy-protected M4V
files can only open on a computer, iPod or iPhone authorized by the account
used to purchase the file. However, you can view unprotected M4V files
with several different software applications. There are two definitions
for the term M4V. The first is that raw MPEG-4 Visual bitstreams are named
.m4v. The second, and much more likely, is that you have legally downloaded
a video file from the Apple iTunes store and it has the M4V extension.
These files can be movies, TV shows or music videos and all will include
Apple's FairPlay DRM copyright protection. Embedding an M4V video in a
site adds interest and draws visitors' attention. Apple uses the M4V files
to encode TV episodes, movies, and music videos in the iTunes Store. The
format, with DRM removed, can also be played in the webOS Video Player
for use on the Palm Pre, Palm Pixi smartphones. It is used as the default
video conversion format for HandBrake and Air Video Server on the Mac.
By embedding the video in your site rather than linking to it, you ensure
that you do not lose traffic from your site when visitors follow the link.
M4V can be read by all Mac products, like iPhone and iPod Touch, but it
is not widely readable in non-Mac devices and programs.
What is iPad?
The iPad is classified as a tablet computer, also known simply as a tablet.
These mobile computers are typically larger than the average mobile phone,
smartphone or personal digital assistant, yet smaller than the average
laptop computer. They often integrate a flat multi-touch display, and use
onscreen virtual keyboards as opposed to a physical keyboard. The iPad
showcases all of these hallmarks, without the need for stylus pens that
some tablets may require. The Wi-Fi version of the iPad went on sale in
the United States on April 3, 2010. The Wi-Fi + 3G version was released
on April 30. 3G service in the United States is provided by AT&T and was
initially sold with two prepaid contract-free data plan options: one for
unlimited data and the other for 250 MB per month at half the price. The
iPad was released with three capacity options for storage: 16, 32, or 64
GB of internal flash memory. All data is stored on the internal flash memory,
with no option to expand storage. Apple sells a "camera connection
kit" with an SD card reader, but it can only be used to transfer photos
and videos. The iPad comes with several applications, including Safari,
Mail, Photos, Video, iPod, iTunes, App Store, iBooks, Maps, Notes, Calendar,
and Contacts. Several are improved versions of applications developed for
the iPhone or Mac. On October 23, 2012, Apple announced the iPad Mini.
With a screen measuring 7.9 inches, it is aimed at the emerging sector
of smaller tablets such as the Kindle Fire. The hardware of the new iPad
Mini is similar to the iPad 2, with a 1024 by 768 pixel resolution screen,
and with a dual core A5 processor, but 53% lighter and 7.2mm thick. It
is scheduled to be released on November 2, in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities.
There are both WiFi and 4G versions, starting at $329 and $459 respectively.
