What is TS?
Transport stream (TS, TP, MPEG-TS, or M2T) is a communications protocol
for audio, video, and data which is specified in MPEG-2 Part 1, Systems
(ISO/IEC standard 13818-1). It is also known as ITU-T Rec. H.222.0. Its
design goal is to allow multiplexing of digital video and audio and to
synchronize the output. Transport stream is an audio, video and data communications
transmission protocol that is specified in MPEG-2 Part 1. TS files are
nowadays very wide spread on the Internet as (usually split) recordings
from HDTV broadcasts. The transport stream allows for multiplexing of the
digital video and audio, which means the data is combined into a single
synchronous transmission bit stream, for transmission over a variety of
standard mediums such as DSL, IP, IPv, Ethernet, Cable TV networks, and
more. It is contrasted with program stream, designed for more reliable
media such as DVDs. MPEG-2 is the format used in the DVD-Video format and
is also part of the HD DVD specification, although it has trouble competing
with more compressible formats such as VC-1 and H.264.
What is Android?
Android is a Linux-based mobile phone operating system developed by Google.
Android is unique because Google is actively developing the platform but
giving it away for free to hardware manufacturers and phone carriers who
want to use Android on their devices. Google acquired Android Inc. on August
17, 2005, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Google. Key employees
of Android Inc., including Rubin, Miner and White, stayed at the company
after the acquisition. Not much was known about Android Inc. at the time,
but many assumed that Google was planning to enter the mobile phone market
with this move. At Google, the team led by Rubin developed a mobile device
platform powered by the Linux kernel. Some devices do not include support
for the Android Market and may use an alternative market. An Android phone
can run multiple applications at the same time in the background, making
multitasking easier. This makes the functionality of the phone more fluid
than some competing platforms, although the extent of this capability depends
on the hardware of the individual phone. As its Google's mobile operating
system, any Android phone comes pre-loaded with a range of Google services
including Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Calendar,
Google Latitude and YouTube. Android devices boot to the homescreen, the
primary navigation and information point on the device, which is similar
to the desktop found on PCs. Android homescreens are typically made up
of app icons and widgets; app icons launch the associated app, whereas
widgets display live, auto-updating content such as the weather forecast,
the user's email inbox, or a news ticker directly on the homescreen. A
homescreen may be made up of several pages that the user can swipe back
and forth between.
