What is 3G2?
3G2 is a video format developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project
specifically for 3G (third generation) mobile phones. Once you move a video
from cell phone to your PC, the easiest way to play it is to use Apple's
QuickTime Player. 3G2 comprises North American and Asian interests developing
global specifications for ANSI/TIA/EIA-41 Cellular Radiotelecommunication
Intersystem Operations network evolution to 3G and global specifications
for the radio transmission technologies (RTTs) supported by ANSI/TIA/EIA-41.
Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation Partnership
Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide uniform delivery
of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd generation
networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices. 3G2 file format
does not store Enhanced aacPlus (HE-AAC v2) and AMR-WB+ audio streams.
The 3G2 is a simpler version of the MP4 format which is also used on many
cellphones. However, if you are trying to view the file on a your computer,
you will have to convert the file into a more common video file format.
The 3G2 specification also defined some enhancements to 3GPP Timed Text.
3G2 is based on the MPEG-4 standard which was derived from Apple's QuickTime.
QuickTime 6.5 includes support for key components of the 3GPP2 specification.
Special types of mobile phones such as these can play videos downloaded
from different sources on the Internet, such as YouTube or Zango. It is
very similar to the 3GP file format, but has some extensions and limitations
in comparison to 3GP. The 3G2 file type is primarily associated with '3GPP2'.
3GPP2 is the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery and playback
of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless networks.
What is iPad?
The iPad is classified as a tablet computer, also known simply as a tablet.
These mobile computers are typically larger than the average mobile phone,
smartphone or personal digital assistant, yet smaller than the average
laptop computer. They often integrate a flat multi-touch display, and use
onscreen virtual keyboards as opposed to a physical keyboard. The iPad
showcases all of these hallmarks, without the need for stylus pens that
some tablets may require. By March 2011, Apple had already released it's
second generation iPad with a number of upgrades over it's predecessor.
Apple estimates that with the sales of both combined devices at the time
of this article's publication, more than 15 million iPads have been sold
worldwide. Apple sells a camera connection kit that consists of two separate
adapters for the dock connector, one to USB Type A, the other an SD card
reader. Adapter can be used to transfer photos and videos and to plug USB
audio card or MIDI keyboard. The iPad weighs about 25 ounces, somewhere
between a fancy smartphone and a laptop computer. Like Apple's other big
products, the iPhone and the iPod Touch, the iPad has a multitouch display.
Most tablet computers before the iPad used the venerable stylus, which
designers saw as more of a headache than it was worth. Smart Covers are
screen protectors that magnetically attach and align to the face of the
iPad 2. The cover has three folds which allow it to convert into a stand,
which is also held together by magnets. While original iPad owners could
purchase a black case that included a similarly folding cover, the Smart
Cover is meant to be more minimal, easily detachable, and protects only
the screen.
