The article introduces how to convert converts MOD files to 3GP
with an easy-to-use MOD to 3GP Converter Software. The software could encode
3GP file with different codecs such as H.263, H.264, MPEG-4, AMR-NB, and AAC.
It's an ideal 3GP converter for your mobile phone. Besides 3GP, the software supports
popular formats such as MP2, MP4, CAF (Core Audio Format), AIFF, ALAC (Apple Lossless), OGM, SWF, etc.
The software could convert H263 to Android Tablet, FLV to Android Tablet, MP4 to MKA, MOV to OGV, FLV to AMR,
and so on.
MOD to 3GP Software supports batch conversion and, is compatible with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000.
What is MOD?
Video file captured with a JVC EVERIO digital camcorder, such as the EVERIO
GZ-MC100, MG130, MG7230, and MG630, or with Canon FS and Panasonic D-Snap
SD-card camcorders; uses MPEG2 compression for video and MPEG-1 Audio Layer
II compression for the audio track. The first camcorders that used MOD
format appeared in 2003. JVC introduced the Everio GZ-MG30, which recorded
directly to an internal hard disk drive. Standard definition video is stored
in MPEG-2 program stream container files with MOD extension; in most other
systems these files have extension MPG or MPEG. MOD video can be viewed
on a computer with a player that is capable of reproducing MPEG-2 video.
As of 2011, MOD format is still being used in standard definition camcorders
manufactured by JVC, Panasonic and Canon. Software that is shipped with
camcorders is capable of processing the aspect ratio information correctly,
aided perhaps by the metadata stored in MOI files. Some think that TOD
stands for "Transport stream on disk". MOD files can be opened
and exported to a different video file format using the software included
with the digital camcorder. Panasonic unveiled the SDR-S100, which recorded
to SD cards. The encoding scheme, data rate, frame rate and frame size
closely matched parameters of DVD-video. Depending on the make and model
of your digital camcorder, your home videos may be saved as MOD files.
Transport stream files can be converted into more common program stream
files without recompressing the video itself. MOD is used exclusively for
standard definition video files, while TOD is used for high definition
files. Data rates, frame sizes and frame rate were comparable to 1080-line
XDCAM and HDV video. Panasonic has never released a consumer high definition
camcorder that used TOD recording format. Instead, Panasonic joined Sony
to develop AVCHD.
What is 3GP?
3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership
Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones but can also be played on some
2G and 4G phones. The MP4 and the AVC file format specifications described
usage of MPEG-4 content in the ISO base media file format. 3GPP file format
was designed for GSM-based Phones and may have the filename extension ".3gp".
Some cell phones use the .mp4 extension for 3GP video. The 3GP file format
was designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to
accommodate mobile phones. When transferred to a computer, 3GP movies can
be viewed on Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms with MPlayer and VLC media
player. Programs such as Media Player Classic, K-Multimedia Player, Totem,
RealPlayer, QuickTime, and GOM Player can also be used. Audio imported
from CD onto a PlayStation 3 when it is set to encode to the MPEG-4 AAC
codec will copy onto USB devices in the 3GP format. It also contains descriptions
of image sizes and bitrate. 3GPP is the new worldwide standards for the
creation, delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed
wireless networks. 3GP is defined in the ETSI 3GPP technical specification.
A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant
bytes first. The 3GP is structurally based on the ISO base media file format
defined in ISO/IEC 14496-12 - MPEG-4 Part 12, but older versions of the
3GP file format did not use some of its features. Most 3G capable mobile
phones support the playback and recording of video in 3GP format (memory,
maximum filesize for playback and recording, and resolution limits exist
and vary).
